The great debate
by darth frosty incoming up, i remember how the jw heavies would brag how back in the day (the 30's and 40's) witnesses would have debates against various religous leaders on matters of faith.
they claimed the reasons the debates ceased, was they used to whip the religious leaders so bad, it became pointless.
as we all know today, witlesses want no part of an earnest deabate with any one.

I'll pick three posters other than myself: Blondie - For her exhaustive research abilities Terry - For his devastating logic and thought development Alan F - For all of the above............

OK, I'll chime in here.....I have always struggled with the whole universal issue/introduction of sin analogy and it's never really computed with me and still doesn't. But I APPRECIATE the dialogue about this from both sides (pro & against) of the topic and the way in which the debates in this thread have for the most part been civil. This is dialogue that you can NEVER get at a kingdom hall and I love being able to MENTALLY exercise, ponder and think about the subject and its accompanying responses. Such a contrast to the brain-dead exercise routines in cognitive dissonance one receives at a KH. Thank you everyone for posting here!!! Just had to get that out............
And by the way, RAF aka Frenchbabyface, I have had such a ongoing crush on you and your pic/avatar.....you are as cute as your thoughts...........just had to get that out too...............

Yep, I remember Fred Curry. He was the assistant Pressroom Overseer. Company man who was cool with me, even though he was a butt-hole to some friends of mine. Was short and had anchor man type hair.

Why Matthew 24 can NEVER be fulfilled.....
by kid-A inlets see.
by watchtower theology, millions if not billions of dead people will be resurrected in jehoobie's funland...... assuming 6 million dubs survive the fiery wrath of lord jehoobie, they will represent a tiny minority in the new world order!.
according to the borg, all of these newly risen dead will require a "witness", meaning, the kingdom ministry will by necessity be in full swing,.

"Hope no one regrets their decision to leave this kind of thoughtless stupidity. And to think that this life saving work "prophesied" in Mt 24:14 is so self serving, so narrowly interpreted. This is horrible."
That's the quote of the year, so far. Couldn't have said it any better...................

What Do You Think About The "Faithful&Discreet Slave Class"?
by minimus inthere are so many new posters here now, i think this topic should be revisited.
i believe the most ridiculous belief that witnesses have is a "slave class" made up of 144,000 give spiritual "food at the proper time".
why can't jws see thru this??

Evidence that the FDS doctrine is full of crock:
IT IS JUST ONE SCRIPTURE......ONE FRIGGIN' SCRIPTURE!!
If the FDS doctrine was so central to the bible and Christianity, I think that it would have merited much more than ONE verse (parable) about it and certainly not just one mention (by the term "faithful and discreet slave). J-dubs have once again managed to turn one thought (obscure passage) into a full blown high control group (anthem) mechanism.

Say You're a Bethelite & Monitoring JWD - How Would You Feel About THESE??
by Seeker4 ini'm talking about the new posters, like kitten whiskers, who started posting today (hope this works: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/120817/1.ashx).
and it seems like we're getting a few like this nearly every day.
people who were raised jws, really worry that they are doing the right thing in leaving, yet who have been made to feel not good enough by the wts, who felt they never measured up, who struggled with it, but came to realize that what they'd been brought up to believe was just not the truth.. the same stories are told over and over again, and they come from sincere, good people - not whiny, fault-finding apostates like the rest of us riffraff around here!

Arthur,
I salute you and others for your thoughtful words and diplomacy. If all had that philosophy, it would go a long way in helping J-dubs (whether nominal or elders, COs, DOs) to think and analyze how to deal with and/or escape the cult. Powerful methodologies at work indeed.
Skally, I respect your work and your passion and enjoy your posts, but you and Johnny were dead wrong in attacking those elders, who made a huge step to just get up the gumption to post here. You hurt more than help with those type of responses and verbal "drive-bys."

What Willoman pointed out is so true - the 1995 generation doctrine and 9/11 were TWO BIG things that really made me sit back and re-assess the WTS. However I looked at the 9/11 in reverse. While it galvanized people and brought people together, what impressed on me was the scene of the actual buildings falling to the ground. At that moment, I realized that these were scenes that we had been seeing in the Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained, Live Forever, and numerous other WTS publications. As J-dubs, we were wishing and hoping for a scene like that to happen, because surely it would indicate Armageddon was here. I had a sick feeling in my stomach, as I realized that for years we were wishing and hoping for God to euthanize the human race in exactly the same fashion that those buildings came tumbling down during 9/11. I got sick thinking that at one time, I would've loved to see that, but the reality of it happening before my eyes made me see how inhumane it was. I began to think deeply about my exit strategy from the org at that point.

I know the couple personally. Beautiful woman. Her and her husband were the kind of people that would have made you stick around the JW-madness a bit, because they both were so down to earth, grounded and just good people. It really is a sad situation. The baby girl (who is absolutely beautiful) lived.
